Synthesis and Study of Novel Multifunctional Cyclodextrin-Deferasirox Hybrids, published in ChemMedChem

Publication follows successful collaboration between the University of Sussex and Eurofins Discovery

Ongar, UK – 7th June 2019

A paper entitled ‘Synthesis and Study of Novel Multifunctional Cyclodextrin-Deferasirox Hybrids’ by authors from the group of Prof. John Spencer, University of Sussex and Eurofins Discovery scientists, has been published in ChemMedChem.  The international study was funded by the Wellcome Trust, Università degli Studi di Catania, the Italian Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca and the Niemann Pick Research Foundation (https://www.nprf.org.uk/) and involved partners from Oxford, Kings College and Catania Universities.

Deferasirox is an oral iron chelator drug, FDA approved for the treatment of chronic iron overload in patients receiving long term blood transfusions.  The paper describes the conjugation of deferasirox to cyclodextrins thus creating hybrids that display improved biological properties and reduced cytotoxicity compared to the parent drug.

Eurofins Discovery continues to provide support, expertise and capabilities to academic research groups engaged in drug discovery endeavors.
